OOC PREFERENCES:
•CONTACT METHOD:
starlightstorm on plurk; PM this journal
•THREAD-JACKING: Go for it!
•FOURTH WALLING / CANON PUNCTURE: All good with me.
•BACKTAGGING: For the most part - exceptions for major character changes or after a long hiatus
•AVOIDED TOPICS: Nothing comes to mind.
•PREFERRED GENDER PRONOUN: she/her
IC CHARACTERISTICS:
•CURRENT CANON POINT: Near the end of Captain Marvel; chronologically, this is June 1995.
•PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: She appears to be a human woman in her late 20s or early 30s. Her manner of dress is typically casual and androgynous: mostly jeans and t-shirts, with a late 80s/early 90s rock/grunge aesthetic. She doesn't wear much (if any) makeup. And she smells like space: powered down, this is a lingering scent of ozone and an acid that's almost citrus, but sharper.
When she engages her power this ramps up in intensity. Her power manifests itself primarily in her hands. Her skin appears to glow from the inside, and energy cascades around her in constantly moving ripples that shift from blue-purple to orange-yellow to white. It almost looks like she's on fire. (But most of the time, she's powered-down.)
•DEMEANOR: Carol is stubborn, competitive, frank, and sarcastic; she's not going to sugar-coat anything. She's liable to say what's on her mind and ask for what she wants directly. She can be playful and fun and likes to joke around, once she's around people she's comfortable with. She has a strong sense of right and wrong and won't hesitate to speak out or act in the name of (what she believes is) right.
•ABILITIES: Carol's body has been infused with the energy of the Tesseract, aka the Space Stone, one of the Infinity Stones that allows the wielder to manipulate the element that it is associated with. The power granted by the Stone does not necessarily, however, reflect the nature of the Stone itself; rather, raw Infinity energy is said to enhance "what's already there," granting powers that reflect the inherent nature of an individual.
In Carol's case, that means superhuman strength and durability, and the ability to absorb photonic energy and discharge it in the form of powerful destructive blasts from her hands, which she can also use to propel herself in flight.
When she focuses her abilities, or has absorbed large amounts of energy, she is able to enter a supercharged state ("Binary mode") which heightens all of her powers: strong enough to take on spaceships single-handedly, able to survive in space unaided, and a near-constant state of photonic charge that makes her body glow. The balance is that -- at the time of her canon pull point -- she can only sustain this mode for a short amount of time, though it can be prolonged with repeated absorption of external energy (e.g. energy-based weapons).
•MEDICAL INFORMATION: Carol is a human-Kree hybrid as a result of a Kree blood transfusion; as a result, her blood is blue-green. She ages much more slowly than a baseline human, and is extremely durable (but not invincible).
•CABIN INFORMATION: The door is trapezoidal and made of an alloy that's alien to Earth. It slides open. There is a small panel of buttons and lights set into the door frame. The door itself is inscribed with a few words composed of blocky, angular glyphs. Her cabin is somewhat small and efficient, and makes good use of vertical space, with its tall ceilings and equally tall, but narrow windows.
•OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS: Gaslighting, mental/emotional abuse, wiped or altered memories
IC PERMISSIONS:
•MENTAL: Yes, but she will definitely not be happy about it
•MIMICRY: Go for it (she'll probably think you're a Skrull)
•VIOLENCE: Yes ... good luck! I am very open to her getting into fights but it's probably best to square away details and make sure we're all on the same page re: power levels and abilities.
•MAGIC: Yes; as above with checking in re: powers and abilities if it's a physical effect.
•DEBATE: Yes
•OTHER / NOTES: At this canon pull point, Carol is coming off of six years of straight up lies and gaslighting, and a whirlwind 24 hour period in which she learned the truth of her own origin. Her own memories aren't completely intact, but they'll be coming back to her; just like some experiences of Earth triggered some of Carol's memories in the film, so too will experiencing familiar things over the initial stretch of time she spends here. I would love to have other characters be a part of this journey, especially if they are from or have a fondness for Earth in the late 80s and early-to-mid 90s.
